• Nationwide and in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, Southeast Asian Americans lack visibility and influence due to their recent arrival in the US, their relatively small percentage of the nation’s population, and their unfamiliarity with the American social and political environment. For these and other reasons, Southeast Asian Americans have often been ignored politically.
  • As a community-based organization, the Southeast Asian Community Center seeks to take a lead role in building a stronger Southeast Asian American community: a community which can advocate successfully for its welfare, and a community that is visible and whose voices are heard and respected.
  • Over the years, SEACC has provided program services such as voters’ registration, advocacy, leadership development, networking, and community capacity building. The agency has also organized workshops, seminars and training sessions for community members on advocacy techniques, public speaking, and media relations and has provided opportunities for participants to practice these skills at the local and state government meetings and events.
  • SEACC’s vision is to unify and raise the collective voice of Southeast Asians in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area and to enhance the community’s active participation in domestic policy issues. We will expand our mandate to cover “post refugee” issues that impact the lives of Southeast Asians in the US. Of particular concern are legislation and policy involving immigration, welfare reform, language access, education, healthcare, naturalization, census, political district apportionment, and small business development that have direct and often profound effects on Southeast Asian Americans.
